Who I am
My name is Mike, I am a qualified and experienced Chartered Maths teacher of over 10 years. I have also worked as a private tutor, Head of Maths, Assistant Head of Secondary and GCSE examiner. Having worked across state and private schools in the UK, Vietnam and Japan, I am at the leading edge of both the UK curriculum and education in international schools.
My background has always been Maths, from my earliest memories of my dad teaching me number bonds, through to graduating from the University of Warwick (BSc in Mathematics) and the University of York (PGCE in Mathematics). I have a deep love of Maths, problem solving and all things strategy related. It is my passion and privilege to bring this expertise to students, helping them to understand and develop their own appreciation of Maths.
The Education Endowment Fund (EEF) in the UK has conducted research and found that,
“one to one tuition is very effective at improving pupil outcomes” [1]
I am dedicating my time towards one to one and small group tuition, as I believe it is how I can provide even greater benefit to my students. I am specialised in identifying and correcting misconceptions, building Maths confidence and developing students’ problem solving abilities. I can bring all my classroom experience into personalising tuition to adapt to each students’ needs and targets.
As an experienced teacher and GCSE examiner, I am highly trained in the best methodologies for exam preparation and revision skills. I can train students in exam technique and help them prepare individualised revision plans and time management strategies so that they achieve the grades they deserve.
I look forward to working with you to achieve your goals!
